The Winter School on Ukraine and Southern African Futures

Ukrainian and Southern African scholars came together for a three-day Winter School focused on Ukraine, policy analysis, cultural understanding and security perspectives for Africa.

Prof. Oleksiy Haran served on the academic committee of the Winter School “Ukraine and Southern African Futures: Strengthening Policy Analysis, Cultural Understanding, and Security Perspectives for Africa.”

During the three-day programme, Prof. Oleksiy Haran, Taras Zhovtenko of the Democratic Initiatives Foundation (online), and Maksym Yakovlyev of the School for Policy Analysis at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (offline) delivered talks to participants.

The Winter School brought together scholars from 15 Southern African universities and dozens of Ukrainian experts for intensive discussions across three thematic streams: International Relations, Politics and Security Studies; History, Arts, Heritage, Decolonial Studies and Memory Studies; and Human Rights, Transitional Justice and International Law.

The event organisers  thanked all participants and partners for their involvement and support.

The project was held as part of the Lysiak-Rudnytsky Ukrainian Studies Programme of the Ukrainian Institute and the Cultural Diplomacy Foundation, with financial support from the International Renaissance Foundation and the Mnozhyna Foundation.
