Study trip of 150 students from the College of Europe

For several years in the row multi-national group of about 150 students from the College of Europe, Natolin (Warsaw) Campus participates in a study trip to Ukraine.

Prof. Olexiy Haran, DIF’s Research Director, is a traditional guest and speaker.  This year he was invited to the panel discussion: “War for Ukrainian territorial integrity” (Kyiv, September 24, 2018).

He presented dilemmas in assessing the multilayered conflict in Ukraine from a Ukrainian/European/international perspective.

This included references to confused perception of the nature of conflict, not least due to Russia’s powerful deception campaign aimed at portraying it as a sort of a Ukrainian ‘internal conflict’ (be it termed ‘coup’, ‘civil war’ etc.), and the ambiguous initial response of the international community. In particular, Haran stressed the contradictory nature of Minsk agreements.

He also pointed out that Ukrainians overwhelmingly support the idea of the UN peacekeeping mission the Donbas.
